Apple has reportedly hired Tesla’s director of Autopilot software, CJ Moore, to its car project.

Bloomberg reports that Moore will report to Stuart Bowers, who led the Autopilot team until 2019. (Which, according to LinkedIn, is when Moore was promoted from Autopilot software team senior manager to director.) Moore reportedly left Tesla in October after telling the California Department of Motor Vehicles that Tesla CEO Elon Musk exaggerated Autopilot’s capabilities.

Musk said on a Tesla earnings call in January that he was “highly confident the car will be able to drive itself with reliability in excess of human this year” thanks to the Autopilot and Full Self-Driving technologies. Moore reportedly told the California DMV that Musk’s claim “does not match engineering reality,” as the DMV put it, and that it wouldn’t align at the end of 2021 either.
